Low Key Literature Magazine

Seasonal writing and art, low key and open to anyone

About

Low Key Literature Magazine is an independent literary magazine publishing twice a year — once at the start of winter and once at the start of summer. We are looking for writing and art that welcome the season ahead: work that is honest, unpretentious, and worth sitting with as the year changes. Just good writing from people who want to share it.

Submit to Low Key Literature Magazine

We publish twice a year — once at the start of winter, once at the beginning of summer. We love work that speaks to the season it will be published in, though this isn’t required.

What We’re Looking For

Poetry, short-form fiction, and artwork/photography. Visual work is especially welcome when it’s created in collaboration with a writer, or clearly complements a piece of writing.

Guidelines

  • Fiction: up to 2000 words

  • Poetry: up to 2 pages

  • Up to 3 poems or 2 fiction pieces per submission

  • Up to 5 photos or art pieces per submission

  • Previously unpublished work only

  • Simultaneous submissions are fine — just let us know right away if a piece is accepted elsewhere

Rights

We ask for first publication rights only. Once published, all rights return to you.

Compensation

We’re an independent, free magazine and can’t offer payment at this time. However, we will always credit and promote your work.

Winter Issue

Publishing December 19th.
Primary submission window: September 1st through November 15th. If a piece is submitted outside of this time frame, it will be reviewed but is unlikely to be featured in the upcoming issue.
